Profile Drs. Amich Alhumami, M.A., M.Ed., Ph.D

Profile Drs. Amich Alhumami, M.A., M.Ed., Ph.D. currently serves as the Director of Religion, Education, and Culture at the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), Republic of Indonesia, and since March 2023, has held the position of Deputy Minister for Human Development, Society, and Cultural Affairs. He has a multidisciplinary academic background, beginning with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Sociology of Education from IKIP Bandung (1989), followed by a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from Universitas Indonesia (1994), and a Master of Education Policy from George Mason University, USA (2003). He earned his Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, in 2011.

In his professional career, Drs. Amich Alhumami, M.A., M.Ed., Ph.D. has amassed extensive experience in national development planning, particularly in the fields of education, religion, and culture. He has served as the Director of Religion, Education, and Culture at BAPPENAS since 2020, following his tenure as Director of Education and Religion (2019–2020), and previously as Director of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture (2016–2019). Through these strategic leadership roles, he has played a significant role in formulating policies that support inclusive and sustainable human development in Indonesia.

As both a scholar and public intellectual, Drs. Amich Alhumami, M.A., M.Ed., Ph.D. actively contributes to academic and policy discourse through his writings. He is a contributing author to several books, including Pergulatan Intelektual Membela Demokrasi (2020), Islam Berkemajuan untuk Peradaban Dunia (2015), Redesain Pendidikan Guru: Teori, Kebijakan dan Praktik (2013), and “Nasionalnya” Pendidikan Kita: Teropong Masalah Pendidikan (2010). He has also published in respected academic journals, with notable articles such as Higher Education Quality and National Competitiveness (CSIS Analysis, 2015) and Strategic Issues in Education: Problems and Challenges (CSIS Analysis, 2014).
