Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. is a prominent professor of international law at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, and currently serves as the Rector of Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani since 2020. He earned his Bachelor of Laws (S.H.) from University of Indonesia, his Master of International Law (LL.M.) from Keio University in Japan, and his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
Prof. Hikmahanto began his academic career in 1988 and was appointed as the youngest professor in the history of University of Indonesia at the age of 36 in 2001. He later became the youngest Dean of the Faculty of Law at University of Indonesia in 2004. His professional experience extends beyond academia, having served as a legal expert to the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia and as a member of the Expert Group on International Law for the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). He has also been involved in national legislative development, including as a drafting team member for the academic manuscript of the amendment to Law No. 10 of 1997 on Nuclear Energy.
In the corporate sector, Prof. Hikmahanto has served as an independent commissioner for major companies such as Unilever Indonesia, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, and PT Tugu Reasuransi Indonesia. He also provides legal opinions to private institutions and individuals.
He holds leadership positions in several legal organizations, including as Chairman of the Association of Contract Drafters and Legal Experts of Indonesia (PAHKI) and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Justitia Training Center. From 2021 to 2023, he served as President of the Asian Society of International Law. His areas of interest include international law, business law, and space law.
Prof. Hikmahanto is also a prolific writer, having authored numerous books, articles, and research papers. Some of his works have been published internationally, including Nihon To Indonesia Horitsu no Manabika (in Japanese) and Intellectual Property Protection in Asia–Indonesia.
